Being of a pure heart means being honest and sincere in everything we do, with absolutely no form of hypocrisy, lying, and any other type of hidden intentions behind our actions. Being of a pure heart means loving God and others unreservedly from the depths of our heart. To be clean of heart means having pure, honest motives in everything we do, completely free from hypocrisy, deceit, or hidden agendas. In the textbook, a pure heart is described as " a precondition of the Beatific Vision, of being able to see God face-to-face." (pg 127). One with a pure heart will be able to see through God’s eyes and accept others as his or her brothers and sisters as well as temples of the Holy Spirit, which is His reflection in others.
- Contemporary Figure : Fred Rogers
Fred Rogers possessed an entirely pure heart, always striving to give proof of the inner goodness and worth of each child. In his television program, he sought neither glory nor wealth nor even recognition from companies but only had one simple motive, that is, to make children feel safe, special, and loved just as they were. He truly lived up to his popular principle, "The greatest thing that we can do is to help somebody know that they're loved and capable of loving".
- Personal Application:
It is possible for me to cultivate the virtue of having a clean heart through actions that are done anonymously and without any expectation of something in return. Some actions I can take include leaving a motivating note in my classmate’s locker or cleaning a cluttered desk in the classroom during the evening when nobody sees me do it.
